After Messenger made end-to-end encryption the default, search had to move onto a new technical foundation. That transition created an opportunity to improve the experience itself, not simply preserve what existed before.
The redesigned search made it easier to move from a vague memory to the right result. Recent searches helped people pick up where they left off, while clearer categories organized people, conversations, messages, and photos. Results included the context needed to recognize the right conversation or message before opening it.
End-to-end encryption remained the foundation, but the experience centered on an everyday task: helping people find what they remembered quickly and with confidence.
